A week left for ‘Plan Dialogues: Girls Discuss with Leaders’

The event is co-organised by the Plan International Liaison Offices in the African Union, European Union and United Nations.

Only one week to go for the first edition of “Plan Dialogues: Girls Discuss with Leaders,” during which girls and young women will meet decision-makers of the African Union (AU), European Union (EU) and the United Nations (UN) to discuss girls’ rights, as well as their priorities on how humanitarian, human rights, and peace and security systems can positively impact their lives.

Inspiring young advocates take the floor

Young advocates will come together to share their priorities and concerns on four key areas: protection and gender-based violence; access to inclusive quality education; Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR); and political participation and empowerment.

Djamilatou (14 years old) is a girl from Burkina Faso and she will be joining the event as one of the young advocates. In preparation of her participation, she shared that education is key for her: “I demand change. The government should ensure that there’s safety and access to school for all children!”

Djamilatou will be joined by Astrid (16 years old) from Peru, Diko (18 years old) from South Sudan, Hamide (19 years old) from Germany and Stacia (15 years old) from Uganda.

Meeting with key decision-makers

The young advocates will get the chance to engage with and hear from decision-makers from the multilateral spaces of the AU, EU and the UN. We are happy to be welcoming the following speakers:

  • Professor Sarah Anyang Agbor, African Union Commissioner for Human Resources, Science and Technology
  • Ambassador Stella Ronner-Grubačić, Special Advisor on Gender and Diversity at the European External Action Service (EEAS)
  • Ms. Gillian Triggs, Assistant Secretary-General and Assistant High Commissioner for Protection with UNHCR

We are also happy to share that United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet will be sharing a video message with attendees during the event.
